No Thanksgiving for me, please, I’ve already had one.
I’m Canadian, so I celebrated Thanksgiving back in October. The week before I joined the blog hop, everyone was discussing books that explained a subject of their choice. Let’s look at my favourite writing books!

Favourite Writing books
I bet you were sure I was going to choose knitting. My friends, you can have too much of a good thing.
Stephen King: On Writing
I think just about every writer has a copy of this stashed away somewhere. We had a digital copy we’d purchased long ago, and about two years ago came home from a convention with a fresh, new paperback. King’s methods are more intuitive than others, but it comes from years of practice. I think folks often forget he actually studied the craft at a university level.
Steering the Craft: Ursula K. LeGuin
We picked this up on our Cee’s recommendation. LeGuin wrote beautiful fantasy novels. Her craft book is full of exercises to help you learn how to steer your own fantastic draft craft.
Writing the Breakout Novel: Donald Maass
Donald Maass runs one of the most successful literary agencies in New York. It’s particularly notable for the amount of successful Science Fiction and Fantasy authors it represents. Writing the Breakout Novel gives insight into important aspects of writing such as the premise, stakes, and advanced plot structures. It’s a technical book, so yes, it can be dry in places. Does it have good information? You bet your bippie it does.

It’s definitely the craft book we’ve had the longest. Probably because it’s Stephen King 😉

I definitely get new things out of it whenever I read it. The audiobook is also good. It’s narrated by King, so it’s like taking a workshop from him 🙂
Those are great choices … I would add that the “Writing the Breakout Novel” workbook is about the best book on writing craft I own.
Not sure, but I think I have it around here somewhere. Probably in digital. If not, I’ll take a look for it on Kobo/Amazon 🙂

I’m right with you. For a while, my mother tried to serve Ham at one of the holiday meals. I’m pretty sure my brother and I led a revolt on that one. Turkey all the way! 😉
Exactly! My birthday is in July and back when I was still living at home, one year, my mom randomly decided to do Thanksgiving dinner for my birthday. My family thought we were nuts, but it became a tradition of sorts. 🙂
*Nothing* wrong with turkey in July. Pretty sure the only reason we don’t find an excuse for it around here is the amount of heat it would generate in the kitchen. Air conditioning is for warmer climes than ours 😀
My mom got one of those portable oven things – I don’t even know what it’s called – so she’d put the turkey in that and cook it in the garage. LOL! But yeah, we live in the desert, the last thing you do here in July is turn on the oven. 🙂
The portable oven sounds good. I live in a province where BBQ and steak are synonymous, so good luck wrangling poultry anywhere near the grill 😉
